Violent conflict at Lagos Trade Fair market leaves one dead, three injured

Following a violent altercation at the Balogun Business Association, or BBA, market that left one person dead and three injured, operations at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex have been partially suspended.

According to reports, the incident happened on Sunday along the Badagry Expressway corridor. In an effort to restore order and stop things from getting worse, the complex's administration sealed off the affected area.

According to reports, the conflict started when a task force established by the management board attempted to impose a stop-work order on unapproved building inside the complex. According to reports, armed people attacked the enforcement team and started shooting at the officials.

During the attack, one task force member was killed and several others were shot.

According to sources inside the complex, several vendors had started establishing stores in contravention of existing rules, such as prohibitions on building on weekends without permission, and had intruded on unallotted space.

According to an eyewitness, before the enforcement team arrived at the scene, they were not aware that the suspects were armed.

“One of the task force members was shot dead instantly, while others were wounded,” the witness said.

After being transported to a neighboring hospital, the injured victims are still undergoing treatment.

Mrs. Veronica Ndanusa, the Executive Director of the Management Board, confirmed the development and stated that the BBA area would stay closed until the attackers were found and prosecuted.

“I ordered the closure of the BBA section to prevent further breakdown of law and order after a task force member was killed on duty,” she stated.

“The plaza will remain under police lock and key until the perpetrators are apprehended.”
