Wanted notorious cultist arrested in Ondo

Akinwale Tomiwa, a suspected cult leader, has been detained by the Ondo State Police Command due to alleged cult-related activities in Owo, the state's Owo Local Government Area headquarters.

Ojo Peter, a student at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo, was allegedly killed by Tomiwa, a notorious cult figure in the neighborhood, according to the police. According to reports, he was on the command's wanted list.

In a statement released on Sunday, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the state police public relations officer, revealed the arrest. He claims that after receiving reliable information, members of the command's Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akure captured the suspect.

He said, “Operatives of the Command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akure, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Akinwale Tomiwa, popularly known as Bella.

“The suspect is alleged to be the leader of the notorious Eiye Confraternity operating within Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, and its environs.

“The arrest followed actionable intelligence indicating that the suspect was sighted around NEPA Junction in Akure. Acting swiftly on the information, operatives mobilised to the location and successfully apprehended him without incident.”

According to Jimoh, initial investigations have connected the suspect to Ojo Peter's death at Owo on December 12, 2025.

He mentioned that the occurrence had sparked worries in the neighborhood and was thought to be related to rivalry between cults.
