Worker's Day: Federal government declares May 1 public holiday
In honor of this year's International Workers' Day, the Federal Government has proclaimed Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the government's interior minister, made the announcement while congratulating Nigerian laborers.
The minister praised workers across for their commitment and contributions to national development in a statement signed on Thursday by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary.
He urged Nigerian workers to keep keeping the ideals of patriotism, productivity, and dedication to duty, emphasizing that their efforts are still essential to the country's development and prosperity.
“The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers Day.
“The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced this on behalf of the Federal Government. He congratulated workers across the country on this year’s celebration.
“The Minister commended Nigerian workers for their hard work and dedication to national development. He noted that their efforts are essential for the nation’s growth and prosperity,” the statement read.
Additionally, Tunji-Ojo reiterated the Federal Government's dedication to enhancing worker security and welfare and creating an atmosphere that supports economic expansion.
